About
Hi there! I am Maggie Gao-Gehlmann, artist and owner of Flower Bird Art Studio based in sunshine California. I am a full-time artist working with multiple mediums - ceramics, acrylic, watercolor and ink. Whatever the medium, I find myself depicting nature and animals as my subject matters. Playful animals, especially birds, are my artistic“soulmates”.
Pottery making is my current focus. Making pots not only allows me to use my passion and skill of drawing on the clay surface, but also extends my creativity into the 3D world. I use the slab building technique and carve or draw my original designs onto the surface. I then use commercial underglazes and glazes onto bisque fired pieces before the final glaze firing. Each piece is hand made, hand decorated and one of a kind.
I have lived in three countries and many parts of the U.S. I now live and work from my home studio in California. I believe art ought to make the world a happier place and hope my work can show that.
